Food shelf software

Food shelf software from people who ran one.

Food shelf or food pantry, the work is the same. Pantry Nexus came out of years on the floor of a food shelf, and it runs intake, the line, checkout and the report from the devices you already have.

What it does

A food shelf shift on Pantry Nexus

Intake off paper

Register a household once at the desk, or let them register on their own phone. Duplicate checks catch the same household entered twice.

A line without the sign-in sheet

Households scan the QR flier at the door, in English or Spanish, and watch their number on their own phone.

Checkout with the cart weight

Weigh the cart and close the visit. Pounds add up for the report with no tally sheet.

The monthly report, already done

Households served, pounds, volunteer hours and giving for any month, quarter or fiscal year. Download PDF or CSV.

  1. 1Post the QR flier at the door.
  2. 2Households check in on their own phone, or at the desk if they have no phone.
  3. 3Volunteers call the next number from any screen.
  4. 4Weigh the cart at checkout and close the visit.
  5. 5The dashboard and the report update while the line moves.

Whatever your sign says, the shift looks the same.

Across Minnesota and nearby states, many food pantries call themselves food shelves. The day does not change with the name: applications at the desk, a sign-in sheet at the door, a line that grows while one person types, and a report to finish after close.

We spent years on the floor of a food shelf doing exactly that, with paper and one back-office computer. Pantry Nexus is the tool we wanted on those days. It runs in the browser on a laptop, tablet or phone, so there is nothing to install and no server in a closet.

It does not replace your food bank's system for TEFAP or USDA reports. It runs the floor, keeps each household's visit history, and has the numbers your board and funders ask for ready when you lock the door.

Questions, answered

Before your next shift.

01Is Pantry Nexus food shelf software?

Yes. A food shelf and a food pantry do the same work, and Pantry Nexus runs it: household intake, the line, scale checkout, volunteers and reports, in the browser on any device.

02Can we move off paper intake in the middle of the year?

Yes. Founding pantries get hands-on setup and help bringing their current household records in, so you can start with your next shift.

03What about households without a phone?

They check in at the desk and get a number in the same line as everyone who checked in by QR.

04Does it replace our food bank's reporting system?

No. Keep your food bank's system for TEFAP and USDA reports. Pantry Nexus runs the floor and your own reports. If you need a custom report or export, we can build it case by case for an added fee.

Watch it run a real shift.

Also built for food distributions and food bank partner pantries.
